I have always had a bit of envy for you Canadians as the CBC programs I've heard and seen have been so good (news and Slings and Arrows, for example). Here, we have "listener-supported public radio" - in Minnesota there were three different channels, here in Maine only one that has to do everything. But, in Maine we also have a commercial classical station! You could listen to KSJN (Minn. Public Radio's classical channel) on the Internet at www.mpr.org. Or is there some way to vote the rascals out?Auntie Knickershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08854138665883068803noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4452366057148963499.post-7113734287721681412008-03-18T12:46:00.000-07:002008-03-18T12:46:00.000-07:00Kathryn, I have no doubt they've been talking...an...Kathryn, I have no doubt they've been talking...and that the local wizards are sedulously aping what they've heard on BBC 2.Crimson Ramblerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13020190454645032359noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4452366057148963499.post-26043708058449633852008-03-18T12:05:00.000-07:002008-03-18T12:05:00.000-07:00What I find so sad about this is that the perpetua...What I find so sad about this is that the perpetuation of the "accessible music only" mantra puts so-called classical music into exactly the same stereotype -- uniform, old, uninteresting, inaccessible, out of date, etc. -- that so many of the current programs have done so much to refute.Annie's Momhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05980353657789419725noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4452366057148963499.post-26628160270854316092008-03-18T11:47:00.000-07:002008-03-18T11:47:00.000-07:00Aargh....But interesting too, for 2 reasons1)on ou...Aargh....But interesting too, for 2 reasons
1)on our side of the Pond classical music is enjoying rather a boom, thanks to a station called Classic FM, which admittedly goes mostly for pretty accessible music, but does sponsor some great live concerts and is a wonderful and non threatening way to persuade people that classical (in the widest sense) music doesn't have to be so highbrow that you daren't approach without a PhD
2)because BBC radio 2 is EXACTLY as you describe what CBC's plans for the future to be...Easy listening wall to wall, 24/7
Maybe they've been talking.
But you do have my sympathies...Kathrynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09171138485811816831noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4452366057148963499.post-80393706516238349962008-03-18T11:24:00.000-07:002008-03-18T11:24:00.000-07:00this is what happens when the bl**dy cost accounta...this is what happens when the bl**dy cost accountants take over management!Crimson Ramblerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13020190454645032359noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4452366057148963499.post-32491881706152129312008-03-18T10:44:00.000-07:002008-03-18T10:44:00.000-07:00Dangit! >:(Part of the problem, I think, is that ...Dangit! >:(

Part of the problem, I think, is that far too many people do in fact think that the CBC's role is "to garner the largest possible audience."Patrick Chttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15403346340004528537noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4452366057148963499.post-6644416194545073072008-03-18T10:39:00.000-07:002008-03-18T10:39:00.000-07:00Thank you for posting this!!
