In memoriam, this morning...
George Carlin -- I still can't think of his portrayal of Al Sleet, the hippy dippy radio weatherman (on "W - I - N - O -- wonderful WINO!!!!!"): "Forecast for tonight: DARK"...without laughing out loud.
also Cyd Charisse. Turner Classic Movies showed The Band Wagon this morning, and I stayed home and watched it. Legs all the way down to the floor, wow.
Bless them both.

Yes, I did see about Cyd Charisse a couple of days ago -- our often incredibly dumb local paper spelled her name wrong in the headline. I think she must have appeared on TV variety shows a lot when I was a child because she was a "household word" to me although I've seen few of her movies. The most recent one I saw was The Harvey Girls - which overall wasn't very good. But it was her first speaking part.
mmm hmmmm. No actress...but oh my couldn't she dance. There is a sequence in "The Band Wagon" to "Dancing in the Dark"...so intense and INTELLIGENT.
Her misfortune was to come to professional maturity as the Broadway/ Hollywood musical was dying, or already dead. Still, she left great work, which may be all any artist should ask. Even as a child, I was impressed, though I wasn't quite sure why yet!
Carlin's legacy is language, and human foibles; no chance in that going out of fashion.
