we cook

A quick post today. Met yesterday afternoon in a Spiritual Direction Peer Support Group. A very good friend is training for Spiritual Direction. Needs a PSG. So we meet monthly and bat around our experiences and feelings.

COOKIES are present. Yesterday she brought oatmeal cookies...when I said, "Oh these ARE good" she rolled her eyes and said, " know the recipe!!!"

Originally from the American Mental Health Association, the (in)famous

In a very large bowl (a big salad bowl, or even preserving kettle), place

3 cups butter or margarine (1.5 lb.), room temperature preferably
3 cups sugar (the browner the better)
3 cups flour (any kind although rye probably isn't a good idea)
6 cups rolled oats (any type)
1 Tbsp. baking soda (I have forgotten this entirely and can't tell the difference).

Wash your hands thoroughly; and then mix with both hands until the mixture is homogeneous (sp?)

Roll in small balls (pingpong sized) and flatten with a moistened fork.
Bake at 350 for 11-12 minutes until nice and brown.

If you're careful you can get 14 dozen out of this recipe. Very helpful in a house containing adolescent males.
They keep well, if stored in rusty old tins labelled "RAT POISON."

that is all.

Haaa! Rat poison. hee hee!

Sure, you say they're good, but what proof do we have? I'll be glad to provide you with an address for submitted a couple dozen cookies to be tested for quality.

Rach, nothing would give me more pleasure, but I don't think we're allowed, any longer, to ship foodstuffs across the World's Longest Undefended Border...or I would surely do just that...

Oh, suuuure...blame the Mothership Security Department. Dang it!

I remember using this recipe when I taught second graders--they loved to bang them around! Glad you're helping out at a SD's peer group; I'm in one and am always glad to have meet with the others.

Meetings with cookies are always good. MMMMMMmmm Sounds good and easy. Two of my favorite things for cooking will have to try 'em.

I gonna try the "Rat Poison" thing, but most of my friends know me too well; I'd never warn them.

My kids used to LOVE making agression cookies. I told them that the more they pummelled the cookie dough the better the cookies would turn out.

are you referring to the males or the cookies?

This was the Rev's comment when I showed him your blog. My daughter has several "adolescent males" in her class that she thinks might benefit from rat poison.

Hi lovely, yes, I wondered a bit about the potential ambiguity there myself! COOKIES in rusty tins, not adolescent males. Altho' please tell your daughter, her point is well taken.
